The Independent's Summer Through The Lens Photography Contest With The Sony a380 Digital SLR

A Sony a380 digital SLR camera and five digital photo frames can be won in the Summer Through The Lens photography contest from The Independent in association with Sony and the DSLR-a380, their latest SLR digital camera.

London, England, UK – July 27, 2009 (RichContent) – On Saturday 25 July, The Independent launched its Summer Through The Lens photography contest, pitching amateur and professional photographers against each other using the latest Digital SLR camera from Sony, the a380.

“Over the next four weeks we’ll see how photographers from both sides of the fence get on given a level playing field and the latest a380 DSLR from Sony to play with across a variety of assignments,” says a spokesperson. “The aim of the game is to see how well camera and photographer cope with the brief, exploring the idea that, given the best equipment, the amateur can deliver shots aspiring to a quality the professional turns out on a daily basis.”

Taking part in the challenge ( http://www.independent.co.uk/alpha ) will be professional photographers André Lichtenberg, Jamie Baker, Adam Lawrence and Chris Lobina; and amateur photographers Alex Ortiz, David Bushell, Lisa Carey and Will Clark. Each week a selection of anonymous images will be presented from the amateur and their professional counterpart. Users will be asked to vote on which photographer they think is the professional, and will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of five digital photo-frames from Sony.

“It should be a fascinating exercise which will fully explore the capabilities of the a380 to cope with the rigors of a professional brief,” says a spokesperson. “To ensure a level playing field, each photographer will supply us with untouched image files. The emphasis will be on reactions, originality and the ability of the individual to explore the potential of a given situation.”

In the final week, users will be asked to vote for their favourite photograph to be entered into a prize draw to win an a380 DSLR with an 18-55mm zoom lens and a digital photo-frame from Sony.

Boasting 14.8 megapixels of resolution, the a380 ( http://www.sony.co.uk/alpha ) boasts a number of cutting edge features; at just 15.9 ozs it is small, lightweight and easy to use. Quick Autofocus Live View allows the rear LCD screen to be used to frame the image while the screen flips out to enable low down or overhead shots. Super SteadyShot Inside removes camera shake and gives ultra sharp results.
