London, England, UK – October 25, 2010 (via PressReleaseNation.com) — The iconic story of Flashdance is set to dazzle the West End Theatre District this autumn when it hits the Shaftesbury Theatre in Covent Garden from the 24th September and Leicester Square Box Office have got discount theatre tickets and the inside information.

Flashdance tells the story of Alex, an eighteen year old girl who works as a welder during the day, however, her real passion in life is dancing. She moonlights as a dancer in a local nightclub but aims to get a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy in order to turn her dancing dreams into a reality. The story climaxes with her audition to the ballet school where she breaks into a breakdancing number, but will a school so set in their ways be interested in this new dance which is more disco than ballet? Alongside the dancing plot, there is the blossoming romance with a wealthy, middle class divorcee that she meets along the way.

The story is well known due to the Paramount Pictures film release and is one of the defining films of the 80s. It has a fantastic soundtrack including many an iconic song such as ‘Flashdance – What a Feeling’, ‘Maniac’, ‘Manhunt’, ‘Gloria’ and ‘I Love Rock and Roll’.

This West End Production offers spectacular choreography as directed by Arlene Phillips, famous for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance as well as choreographing popular musicals such as We Will Rock You, Starlight Express and The Sound of Music. The West End Theatre production of Flashdance stars Matt Willis in the lead role of Nick who is known for work in boyband Busted as well as featuring on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. The lead role of Alex is played by Victoria Hamilton-Barritt who has previously appeared in Grease the Musical.
